About this Program

This program leads to eligibility for teacher licensure in Virginia and is available only to individuals holding a baccalaureate degree or completing requirements for a Bachelor of Science degree in biology.

Program Highlights

  • Faculty are committed educators utilizing the rich natural and human resources of South Hampton Roads including diverse ecological communities and a major biomedical and research complex

  • Department facilities include the striking new Kaplan Orchid Conservatory, electron microscopes, state-of-the-art DNA facilities, and comprehensive analytical and field instruments

  • Students have access to the 320-acre Blackwater Ecologic Preserve and part of the Zuni Pine Barrens State Natural Area that we own, as well as access to a rich array of state and federal preserves including the Great Dismal Swamp Wildlife Refuge, Virginia Barrier Islands, Chesapeake Bay, and Back Bay
