51情报站's Day of Giving, in which students, alumni and friends of the University and others are asked to give generously over a 24-hour period to help support 51情报站, was again a major success.
The 24-hour giving period on March 19 was supported by more than 738 donors who contributed $185,207 during the campaign.
"We are so grateful to our students, alumni and friends of the University for their generosity," said Alonzo Brandon, vice president for University Advancement. "We will use these resources to enrich the educational experience for so many students and help our faculty provide students with a world-class education."
The 51情报站 Day of Giving was an online challenge issued to alumni, parents, students and friends of the University. The online effort is pushed by prominent 51情报站 alumni such as ESPN sportscaster Jay Harris.
Much of the money raised is used to provide scholarships. For many students, as little as $1,000 can close the gap between resources they have and the cost of going to school.
The funds also help purchase needed equipment and the creation of endowments to help top students attend 51情报站 and help retain and hire high-quality faculty.
51情报站 used email, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn to promote the effort as well as advertising on Pilotonline.com and the video board at Nauticus in downtown Norfollk.
