Hemphill, Ph.D.'s senior leadership team and will be responsible for the University's departments and offices of: Finance, University Budget, Information Technology Services, Campus Life Services, Military Activities, Procurement Services, Facilities Management and Construction, Public Safety, Real Estate Foundation and Space Management.

Reed will also serve as the University's chief financial officer in coordinating the development of the University's annual operating budget, in excess of $574 million, and its biennial operating and capital budget submissions to the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Prior to joining 51Ç鱨վ, Reed faithfully and successfully served Radford University in a number of leadership capacities, most recently as the vice president for Finance and Administration from July 2018 through the present. During his decade long tenure at Radford University, Reed also served in several other capacities, including associate vice president for Budget and Financial Planning. Prior to his service at Radford University, Reed served as an analyst in multiple positions in the Office of Budget and Financial Planning at Virginia Tech. Previously, he served in a variety of management and analyst positions in private industry, including Norfolk Southern Corporation.

"Throughout Vice President Reed's professional career, especially his proven record of success in advocating for and supporting public higher education in Virginia, he has fully demonstrated his commitment to access and opportunity, as well as entrepreneurship and innovation," said President Hemphill. "His commitment to accountability and attention to detail have been integral to his success. He is well-known and highly-regarded for his solution focused mentality, which is driven by his commitment to customer service, public stewardship and servant leadership," added President Hemphill.

"Following a national search, Vice President Reed was highly recommended by the Search Committee and those he interacted with during the in-depth process. The search, facilitated by WittKieffer, focused on the recruitment of a talented pool of higher education leaders with a business-minded background and highly-related experience. Individuals were particularly impressed by Reed's clear expertise in the fields of administration and finance, his direct experience in the Commonwealth, his deep enthusiasm for the mission and role of public higher education and his many accomplishments throughout his professional career," said President Hemphill.

Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Austin Agho, Ph.D., who served as the Search Committee Chair said, "When the search began in August, the Search Committee shared the University's need for a forward-thinking, visionary and entrepreneurial professional ready to provide dynamic leadership in the planning, implementation and management of customer-focused financial and administrative services in support of the University's mission of transformative teaching and learning. As a result of this search and with the appointment of Reed, we have been highly successful in our work. I applaud the Search Committee for their hard work and diligent effort. I look forward to welcoming Vice President Reed to our dedicated team, and I am confident that he will be very successful at 51Ç鱨վ!"

Upon selection for the position, Reed said, "I express my sincere appreciation to President Hemphill, the Search Committee and the campus community. During the search process, I had the unique opportunity to hear first-hand about the incredible impact of 51Ç鱨վ on campus, in the community, across the Commonwealth and beyond. 51Ç鱨վ has long served as Virginia's university with distance locations all across the Commonwealth. The 51Ç鱨վ name, brand and reputation are well known in Virginia and beyond. Moving forward, I pledge my full support as we join forces to expand 51Ç鱨վ's mission and impact. I look forward to arriving on campus and making a home with my family in Hampton Roads as I begin my service as a Monarch this spring!"

Reed earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in General Business from East Tennessee State University and a Master in Public Administration from Virginia Tech. He has completed numerous professional training and development programs through the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO).
