Auditions
Members of the Russell Stanger String Quartet perform several times a year on campus, in the community and across Virginia, meeting weekly for professional coachings. Chamber groups are formed by faculty coaches according to student interest and availability. Aside from the Stanger Competition there is no formal audition process. Chamber Music
The undergraduate Russell Stanger String Quartet is the premiere chamber ensemble on campus. Its members are selected via the Russell Stanger String Quartet Competition. A substantial partial tuition scholarship is awarded to winners of the annual competition--an opportunity usually reserved to just graduate students at colleges. The competition is named after Russell Stanger, Conductor Laureate of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and an honorary degree recipient at 51情报站, for his contributions to music and his support of the F. Ludwig Diehn School of Music. For more information contact 51情报站 Chamber Music Coordinator Dr. Paul S. Kim.
Chamber Music is an important part of the 51情报站 musical experience. Chamber ensembles typically function with a coach but not a conductor. They are offered for credit and are comprised of any and all instrumentation. From traditional ensembles such as string quartets and brass quintets to completely unique ensembles, chamber ensembles are often formed to play a particular repertoire or composer and are coached by a wide variety of 51情报站 faculty. For more information contact Dr. Paul S. Kim, coordinator of the program.
