In March, the 51情报站 Math Festival held virtual in-classroom workshops across three Hampton Roads cities. Approximately 140 third to sixth graders from 5 different schools took part in the workshops.
The students participated in The Last Chip Activity, a fun and interactive math game in their classroom. Each teacher who participated received a class set of customized chips featuring our Sherlock X character. Every student received a star stress ball and a color-changing pencil.
MonarchTeach, an innovative teacher prep program at 51情报站, lent the MathFest 15 students who led the school-aged students as an experiential learning activity for their STEM 101 course, designed to help 51情报站 students explore teaching as a career.
There were also 4 51情报站 faculty who volunteered to lead and coordinate the events. Participant feedback was overwhelmingly positive with an average rating of 8 out of 10.
The next MathFest activity will be two online teacher workshops coming up at the end of April. For more information, visit the Math Festival website.
